  9. Ultimate Pool system requirements
  10.  
  11. Ultimate Pool is a computationally intensive game, which takes full
  12. advantage of the Power PC's RISC processor. These processors are 
  13. designed to compute many floating point calculations very quickly.
  14. Unfortunately, due to the huge number of these calculations needed to
  15. compute the physics of pool, we were unable to get acceptable speed
  16. on the older 680x0 processors. We tried, but it just wasn't possible,
  17. so for now, Ultimate Pool needs a Power PC Macintosh. Below is the
  18. minimum system configuration needed to run Ultimate Pool:

  20.     A Power PC Macintosh!
  21.     System 7.0 or greater.
  22.     A monitor supporting 256 colors or greys.
  23.     A screen resolution of 640 x 480 
  24.     (resolutions of 832 x 624 and 1024 x 768 are awesome!).
  25.     Sound Manager 3.0 or greater.
  26.     5.5 Meg of available RAM.
  27.     4 Meg of hard drive space.

  29. If you have any problems running the game, send us email and we'll do 
  30. our best to figure out why.

  32. How to play
  33.  
  34. Ultimate Pool was developed on the Apple Macintosh, and consequently
  35. has an elegant and intuitive user interface. All of the controls you need
  36. to play the game are displayed below the pool table, and the mouse is
  37. used to position the cue ball and aim the cue. All options that you can
  38. specify (including choosing a new opponent) are located in the game's
  39. Preferences menu.

  41. For a quick and easy introduction to Ultimate Pool, select the "How to
  42. Play..." option under the game's apple menu. This brief overview will
  43. get you started and explains the basic controls used in the game. Once
  44. you have familiarized yourself with the controls, you can consult the
  45. Ultimate Pool User Guide for more in depth information on the controls
  46. and various keyboard shortcuts. In addition, the User Guide describes 
  47. all of the games that come with Ultimate Pool and their rules.

  49. What's new with version 1.1
  50.  
  51. The Ultimate Pool PPC 1.1 upgrade includes these much requested 
  52. and excellent new features:
  53.  
  54.     English/spin control. It is now possible to add spin to the cue 
  55.     ball with an intuitive control panel addition.
  56.  
  57.     Keyboard shortcuts. You can use the keyboard to shoot, fine tune 
  58.     your aim, shift the cue ball while aiming, extend the guideline to 
  59.     the cushion, and add spin to the cue ball.
  60.  
  61.     Draggable dialogs. All dialogs that pop up during the game and 
  62.     ask you to make a choice are draggable and window shadeable, 
  63.     so you can make a more informed choice.
  64.  
  65.     Next ball display. The games of House and Tournament 9-ball, 
  66.     and the new game of Rotation, show you the color of the current 
  67.     (lowest-numbered) object ball.
  68.  
  69.     Improved ball physics. We loosened up the ball physics a little 
  70.     after real pool players indicated that they were a bit too stiff.
  71.  
  72.     Rotation. A challenging new game that really takes advantage of
  73.     the new English/Spin Control.
  74.  
  75.     New & improved 8-ball. This isn't really a new feature, but we 
  76.     fixed the really embarassing scratch on 8-ball bug.

  78. Translators wanted for Ultimate Pool User Guide
  79.    
  80. Ultimate Pool is a popular game around the world. In order to broaden
  81. its appeal, we are looking for people who are able to speak any of the
  82. following languages (in addition to English) who might be willing to
  83. translate the User Guide:

  85. French     German    Italian    Japanese     Portuguese     Spanish
  86.  
  87. If you like to play Ultimate Pool, please write and let us know if 
  88. you'd be interested in translating the manual. We'll give anyone who 
  89. translates a free copy of the game, plus lots of acknowledgement. 
  90. And your efforts will definitely be appreciated by people all over 
  91. the world.

  93. If your country's language is not listed, and you think Ultimate Pool
  94. would be more popular where you live if there was a manual available 
  95. in the native language, just let us know and we'll consider it.

  97. How (and why) to register
  98.  
  99. Ultimate Pool is shareware and costs U.S. $20.00. This means that 
  100. you can try out the program for 30 days and see if you like it and 
  101. enjoy playing. If you do continue to enjoy the game, then please send 
  102. in your shareware fee. Shareware authors are not salaried employees
  103. who draw a paycheck no matter what. We only get paid if honest
  104. people send in their payments.

  106. Without continued support from the Macintosh community, we can't
  107. afford to continue developing games. I already know far too many 
  108. people who say: "I have a PC cause there aren't enough good Mac
  109. games". That phrase depresses me more than any other and I make
  110. every effort to convert people to the Mac whenever possible. And 
  111. quality games go a long way in converting people. If you're trying to
  112. decide whether or not to register, just ask yourself if you'd really
  113. like to live in a world where you can only run Windows 95.

  115. Registering Ultimate Pool is pretty easy. Just run the register 
  116. program that came in the Ultimate Pool folder. If you don't have a 
  117. register program, then run the Ultimate Pool application, select 
  118. "Register Pool..." under the Preferences menu and then click in the 
  119. "Create Register" button at the bottom of the dialog. Once you have 
  120. the registration program, run it and choose the payment method 
  121. that you would like to use and enter your personal information.

  123. If you pay by credit card, then you can either email, fax, or postal
  124. mail the form, whichever you prefer. If you pay by email, then send
  125. the appropriate form to sales@kagi.com. If you prefer to fax the
